Our Silver-Line SL-8 drum floor sander rental, also known as a belt sander, is designed for heavy sanding of solid wood flooring. A drum sander cuts through the wood, removing multiple layers of wood as well as any varnish, to give you a new surface to refinish.

The spin speed, coupled with the weight of the machine (about 100 pounds), makes drum sanders aggressively powerful — and challenging for beginners to use.

These machines are best for floors with deep scratches or gouges or warped boards — floors that need a lot of help to get back to their former glory.

Drum sanders can gouge marks or depressions in the floor if you stop moving for even a moment. Moving continuously at a steady pace and following the grain of the wood is key to getting a good result. Beginners might consider practicing on a test surface before attempting the real thing.

Drum sanders are bulky and can’t go everywhere. Since they’re rounded, they can’t get close to walls. You’ll need an edge floor sander to access floor edges and to sand around baseboards.

Rental Tips

  • Must be 18 years or older to rent and present a valid US driver's license when you pick up.
  • Prices are subject to change. Applicable sales tax, delivery, and other fees are not included in price estimates on our website because we have 3 locations with different county tax rates.
  • Reserve your equipment as far in advance as you can to ensure your rental is available when you need it. A deposit may be required for a reservation.
  • Unless clearly specified and noted in the reservation, the equipment you get may be a different make or model based on availability.
  • If you are towing your equipment, you will need to provide proof of active registration, insurance and driver’s license.
  • If you plan to use your own trailer for towing, you must bring your own, proper tie down equipment.
  • Call immediately (one hour or less) if you have a problem with your rental equipment. If it's after hours or you are having trouble getting through, submit the problem online. We will either fix the issue, provide a like item if available, or adjust the rental charges. If you do not make a report of an issue when it happens, there is nothing we can do to help.
  • Check the return time on your contract to avoid extra charges.
  • Call if you need to keep the equipment past your reservation.
  • Clean your equipment and refill it with gas or fuel before returning to avoid extra charges.
  • Delivery and pickup are available on request for an additional charge.
